We’re the History Lab team: a transdisciplinary group of faculty and students using digital technologies to rethink the past. We’re historians, computer scientists, librarians, educators, and artists combining disciplines as we engage in innovative historical storytelling.
The Visualizing Virginia Tech History project explores Virginia Tech’s hidden histories during the university’s 150th anniversary—and beyond. With support from the Council on VT History, we’re building projection mapping displays, digital exhibits, extended reality tours, and more. The project starts with a simple question: “If this place could talk, what could it tell us?”
As the university commemorates its sesquicentennial in 2022, our work allows you to explore many layers of campus history using technologies such as projection mapping and Extended Reality.
History Lab's digital exhibits share Virginia Tech’s history in all its complexity—from its Land Grant origins, to Vietnam-era student protests, to Black community-building on campus.
Share your memories and pictures from your time on Virginia Tech's campus! Your memories will appear in the digital location-based archive HistoryPIN for current and future Hokies to enjoy.
